Scope and Content: This subseries consists of correspondence, reports, flyers and cuttings relating to Prisoners' rights in Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and in England and is divided into 6 files. G60/29/17/1 relates to prisoners’ right to speak and learn Irish and to receive and use Irish language materials in prison and includes a note written on tobacco paper from H Bloc prisoner Seán Ó Néill (25/9/1984); G60/29/17/2 relates to the treatment of prisoners including frequency and violence of strip searching and includes "Report of the Independent Public Inquiry into Abuse and Torture of Irish Prisoners" May 1978; G60/29/17/3 contains material relating to the Nicky Kelly Case [Kelly was alleged to have taken part in the 1976 Sallins Train Robbery, was tortured in custody and after evidence cast doubt on his conviction was eventually given a Presidential pardon].
